The Problem:
When the bus pulls up, the welcome falls short.
Every year, more than 8,000 visitors walk through our doors — schoolchildren on field trips, seniors on bus tours, families driving in from across New England. When a busload of 50 guests arrives at once, they are greeted by restrooms built in 1990 that can only handle two people at a time. The result: long lines stretching into the hallway, anxious children, uncomfortable elders — and a first impression that colors the entire visit before it has truly begun.
The restrooms have also aged poorly and no longer meet current ADA accessibility standards — a real problem for a museum that serves older visitors and individuals with disabilities every day.
Renovated Women's Room
Six stalls, including a fully wheelchair-accessible stall and an ADA ambulatory stall with grab bars — up from two stalls today.
Renovated Men's Room
Two stalls — wheelchair-accessible and ambulatory — plus three urinals. Fully updated fixtures and finishes throughout.
New Family & All-Genders Room
A generously sized, fully ADA-compliant space with a baby-changing table, welcoming parents, caregivers, non-binary visitors, and anyone who needs a little more room.

Working from completed architectural plans, we will gut and rebuild the existing restrooms and add a brand-new family restroom — creating facilities that are modern, accessible, and genuinely adequate for our visitor volume. The project is fully designed, contractor selected, and shovel-ready.
