What does Indigenous resurgence look like in everyday life?
How do art, language, relationships, clothing, community, and acts of care become forms of resistance?
This summer, join the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum Book Club as we read As We Have Always Done by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, a powerful exploration of Indigenous freedom, resurgence, and the ways Native peoples continue to carry culture forward despite generations of colonial disruption.
As visitors explore our contemporary gallery exhibit, Adornment that Adapts, they will see examples of how beadwork, quillwork, ribbon skirts, regalia, and contemporary Indigenous art continue to evolve while remaining deeply rooted in culture and community. Simpson's work invites us to think more deeply about these expressions—not simply as art, but as living acts of resistance, relationship, and Indigenous self-determination.
