ca 1870's. This Mi'kmaq quilled box is constructed of birchbark. Designs are etched into the bark before the quills are applied. Quills are inserted into carefully spaced holes punched into the surface. The box is constructed using spruce root and wooden pegs to hold it to the wooden base.
