Birchbark canoes are Native watercraft, uniquely suited to the Northeast. They were used extensively during the fur trade from New England to Hudson's Bay. They are light, pliable and incredibly strong. They range in size from 8 feet to as much as 40'. The canoes are constructed from White Birch and are laced together using Spruce Root. Seams are waterproofed with Pine pitch mixed with ash.
