Pueblo Cottonwood Drum with Painted Details

Pueblo Cottonwood Drum with Painted Details

$75.00

A 1920 Taos Pueblo drum, made of cottonwood and rawhide. Drums accompany most Pueblo dances and ceremonies. This diminutive drum is wonderfully painted. The drum heads are deer rawhide, untanned hide that is soaked before attaching to the drum. Once assembled, the hide dries and shrinks to create a very tight-fitting head. Rawhide drums are affected by humidity, and will soften and lose it's tone if damp.
